Hello my name is Jerrett Maghes and I’m a current student at I'm a current student at Tarrant County College." Change "and even at the Movie Tavern." to just "and the Movie Tavern." Change "my degree of associate's" to "my associates degree." In the past I’ve worked in hospitality for the Texas Workforce, such as Henry Schein Warehouse, YMCA, Embassy Suite, Feedstore BBQ restaurant, and even at the Movie Tavern. This summer I plan on working with the Texas Workforce again, only this time I’ll be working for a job fitting my degree of associate’s. Working at these different jobs has helped me learn what it’s like to work in the real world and have full experience.
"One of my greatest accomplishment is graduating from L.D. Bell High School in 2021 and earning my AAS in Graphic Communication from Tarrant County College in 2025. Throughout my studies I have completed many great projects, both digital and physical."

One of my best projects I did in Portfolio was the Resume project. For this project we had to have a resume created and formatted the right way to look professional. Once we were done with it we had to not only submit it InDesign (or Illustration), but also have it exported as a PDF and along with other links or software that way we can go back to fix anything in the future.
I decided to make my custom resume in InDesign. I started off by using the resume in the link above and copied the same information from it. For the document I made a red border kinda like in the Breakout animation just to make it stand out. I also changed the font to a video game style font to make my resume look sort of like a video game. At the top I made it black with my name, and contact information in white to look professional. I also put my branding logo I made for my brand project and placed it in the top right of the header. I left the rest of the inside of the document plain white with all my skills, work experiences, dates, and accomplishments in the same font in black. I also made 5 Adobe software icons in Illustrator and placed them at the bottom of my resume to show all of the Adobe programs I’ve worked on since I’ve been in Graphic Communication.
Once I was completed I then made a folder and made all my files the right name. I exported my project as PDF and put in the folder along with the InDesign file of where I made my resume, but also with the illustrator file I create my Adobe icons off of and my Brand project with the branding logo I made so that I could go back to them anytime any fixing is needed. Before I handed in my resume to the teacher, I used my exacto knife and ruler to trim off the white border.
This is my Spot Illustration I did in Computer Illustration 2. The goal was to make an illustration picture based on the theme we selected at random out of the grab basket. My theme for this project was “Warming Oceans”. I started by researching the topic and learned that warming oceans can be very deadly to the animals and other living organisms. Warming Oceans can also be caused by ice melting and even air pollution being absorbed into the ocean.
To figure out what I like to put in the illustration I started off by sketching out my ideas. I decided to sketch out differences between a healthy ocean and a warming ocean. The way I did it was I drew a line from the left to the right side to represent the underground with the middle space to be filled with water to represent the ocean.
The left side represents health, while the right represents warming. On the left side I put a figure that appears to be picking up trash to represent taking care of the beach. Also on the left side of the ocean I made sand with the color it should be with and made the water in a blue-white gradient representing the right color of the way it should be. I also sketched out coral in a good state with 4 fish in it to represent the way sea life is supposed to be. Above I put a big piece of ice to show it hasn't melted.
The right side represents warming that can be harmful to the environment. On that side I made the water into a gradient of green-white with the sand darker to represent what warming oceans could look like. On the land to the right I showed a little bit of water washing up on the land, along with a little house I made green to represent a green house with a big pipe that has a cloud of carbon dioxide gas coming out. In the sky I have the sun, so if the gas is absorbed with the sun along with the ocean it becomes warming. Another thing I learned about warming oceans is that the coral can be bleached out and die, so to represent bleached coral I took the same coral I did on the left and made a duplicate and made changes to it by making the coral branches thinner, changed them to white, and had them sort of hung over to show that they’re dead. Also on that side I made a shark going belly up and a bunch of skeletal remains of fish on the bottom to represent that warming oceans are dangerous for the animals, because if there are no predators or food then there would be no circle of life.
Once I completed my project on Illustrator I submitted it, but also I had to go to a service bureau to get some printouts. Once I received my printouts I then mounted one of them on the black presentation board. The bearu I went to was the Postal Annex and before I left I needed the receipt to staple it to the worksheet, because if I didn’t I would not get a good grade. I showed my teacher the receipt of the printouts stapled to the worksheet to prove I got the prints from somewhere. Not only am I proud of this project, but also it felt great to learn abou what warming oceans is about. I bet with this illustration, the people will better understand that we must take care of the oceans and not do harm to it.
This is my breakout animation project that I did in my Basic Animation class. I made a ball, paddle, walls, and bricks to show my version of the game Breakout. After I made all the things I needed I then started to move things around in the keyframes to show movement. Once the ball touched one of the bricks, I made some keyframes to show the bricks disappearing. I also got sound effects from mixxit.com for the ball bouncing off the paddle, walls, and disappearing bricks to make it look like the actual game. Once I felt enough bricks were gone, I had to make the ball miss the paddle on purpose showing the two words, “GAME OVER” which also has sound effects too.
In portfolio class I came back to this animation for a special project where I had to have 4-6 pictures of my animation mounted on the presentation board in the correct order. The only change I made to my animation was having the words “GAME OVER” flash different colors. The way I did it was going into Illustrator and finding the correct font I used and gave each letter a different color and placed it into Animate. Once I did the edits needed I then proceeded in printing out my 4 pictures, having them trimmed the right size, and having them mounted correctly.
Another project I liked doing comes from Computer Illustration 2. This is my Motif pattern project. For this project we were to grab a little piece of paper that has 4 elements that we have to include and show a pattern repeating in rows of 3. I first set up my file with two documents one with a 17 x 11 tabloid size and one that is a 9 x 9.
The 4 elements I selected at random included a helicopter, cricket bat, music, and Biochemistry. The first thing I did as always was sketch out several ideas of how to represent my elements. For the elements I sketched out a helicopter, cricket bat, and some things to represent music, and something to represent Biochemistry.
For both music and Biochemistry I did some research just to get some ideas of what to put. Looking at images online and coming up with ideas I created a triangle and music notes to represent music. As for Biochemistry, I decided to make rows of DNA and even make a DNA chromosome. Look at the colors of DNA. I made them blue and red. As for the chromosome I made it blue and added effects to it to make it look like a real chromosome. Once I was done making my elements, I then made a perfect sized square and put all my elements in the square with parts of them sticking outside the square.
To show a pattern developing I used the direct selection tool and selected parts of the elements coming out of the square and used the pathfinder tool with the tool divide to cut off the part of the element and place the cropped off piece of the elements on the opposite side. The helicopter is on the right where one of the blades are cropped off and placed on the left. The cricket bat is on the left with part of the handle outside where I divided it and moved it over to the right side. On the bottom is the triangle where its part is moved to the top. Finally the chromosome is on the top where its part is moved to the bottom.
Once I was done designing what my sample looks like, I made duplicates and lined them up with the cropped off pieces to make them look like their one piece. On the 17 x 11 document I made my sample large and had 9 smaller duplicates in the form of a pattern and made a copy of that pattern and lined up and placed it on the 9 x 9 document. Once I was done I made sure I had all my sketches and my file under the right name to have it printed out and submitted on canvas.
One more project I like to talk about is my Bats and Rats Science Camp poster I did in Computer Illustration 2. For this project I had to come up with my very own Science Camp for kids and show at least 8 activities above and below ground, but if I put any animals in it I would have to make some that aren’t very dangerous and too scary for the kids to see. The file size we were to make this project was 11 x 17 or 17 x 11 in Adobe Illustration.
I started off by doing sketches on paper to come up with several ideas to put above and below ground. One of the ideas I thought of putting above ground were a cave, some grass, a tree, a little flower, carrots, and even some animals you would see above ground. For every activity I had to show some meaning to help my audience understand what’s going on. I placed all my images into Illustrator and used the pen tool to draw out my ideas.
For the cave I made stalactites and stalagmites to show a safe visit that I could see. Also since the title was “Bats & Rats”, I decided to draw a bat that appears to be coming out of the cave to show where bats live. Near the cave entrance I made grass and on one of the grass blades I created a ladybug to show that it can crawl on grass. Also I made a carrot where I put it in the ground and made a dirt mound shaped and changed the opacity of the carrots to show part of them are underground. I also drew a rabbit that appears to be taking out one of the carrots to show what rabbits like to eat. I also made a tree with a bunch of apples I made differently using gradients and effects.
On the tree there is a woodpecker that appeared to peck a hole in the tree to show how they catch insects for food. Above the woodpecker I made a caterpillar, a pupa (chrysalis), and a butterfly to show the butterfly life cycle. Another Item I put in the tree was a nest with an egg inside with a bird flying away from its nest. I also made a beehive with a bee buzzing out of it towards a flower to represent what bees do. I also had one of my apples fall down from a tree where there is a vole taking a bite out of it to show that it’s scavenging it for food.
Underground I made lots of special things. One of them was that I made several layers of dirt that I researched and made one of my own. The layers begin with grass on the top with the layers of dirt in different values of brown. In the layers of first I made rocks with different 3-D effects to make them realistic and made them different colors blending them in with the layers they’re in.
Also below ground I made lots of burrows to show some animals living underground. In the first burrow I made a rat with a rotten apple showing where rats live and what they do to stay safe. The second burrow has two tunnels, where the one on the left has another rabbit lying down while the right one is empty but is the above rabbit's home. In the third burrow I made ants in different colors that appear to have pieces of leaves in their mandibles showing what they like to eat.
Another idea I thought of putting below ground was having a shell and a leaf in the form of fossils to show what you could find underground. I also thought of making roots underground connecting with the tree, flower, and carrots where there is a pool of water to show how plants grow. I did research about worms and sketched them out in different positions with a brown background to show that they’re underground.
I also had to put all of the information about this event like the name and dates of applications, and even the headline “Bats and Rats”. The name of the event and the dates of application I made in regular fonts, but for the “Bats and Rats” header I made it a display font. For the header I decided to make the words into the same color as the bat and rat you see in the picture. For “Bats” I made it the same color as the bat you see, and the “Rats” same color as the rat you see.
Once I was done making my poster I made all the text to outline, had a folder under the right file name with my document file under the right name in the folder along with all the sketches I did and submitted it on canvas. After submitting it on canvas I placed the file folder in my hard drive to have the teacher print it out.
This project was really fun, especially making different animals and showing what they do.
